  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch (lunch will not be provided
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Cost*:

Member $100, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Non-member:  $125, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Lunch will not be provided


*IABO has applied for funding through the Statewide Fire and Building Safety Education Fund (675 IAC 12-11).  Please DO NOT pay in advance as an invoice will be sent following the class.



This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's. 


Course Description:
This course provides an overview of the latest safety provisions related to fire alarm, detection, signaling and emergency communication demands. The building and fire code requirements based on occupancy classification for automatic and manual systems and other scoping provisions related to fire alarms will be presented.  This will be followed by coverage of NFPA 72 installation, performance, inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems components.  This will include the identification of alarm testing, maintenance of fire alarm systems and identification of fire alarm components.


Upon completion of this fire alarm seminar, participants will be better able to:

  • Identify the requirements of IFC Section 907, Fire Alarm and Detection, signaling and emergency communication systems.
  • Explain the intent of Section 907, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems.
  • Explain the importance of why fire alarm systems are required
  • Identify key components of a fire alarm system
  • Understand the requirements of NFPA 72 and relationship to the IBC and IFC related to installation, inspection, testing and maintenance of fire systems and components.

Presenter: Christina Collester, P.E., Principal, Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Ms. Collester is a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering.  She is a registered professional engineer with current registration in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio & Kentucky.  She holds a member grade in the Society of Fire Protection and the National Fire Protection Association.


Ms. Collester has 30 years' experience in the field of fire protection engineering.  Her project experience is broad based and has included fire alarm and fire protection systems design and analysis including preparation of specifications and design drawings, cost estimating, review of construction documents, commissioning and construction inspections.  Ms. Collester has provided code consulting services to architects and building owners for new buildings, additions and renovations.  Her projects have included high-rise office buildings, medical centers, shopping malls, detention and correctional facilities, residential, industrial, commercial and government facilities.


Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is February 15, 2018.  Registrations received after February 15 will not be guaranteed class materials at the time of class.



Cancelation Policy:
All cancelations must be received in writing no later than February 15, 2018 to avoid penalty.  All late cancelations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancelations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.


Attendance Notice Regarding Certificates/Funding: 

Indiana Association of Building Officials is committed to complying with the requirements of the Division of Fire and Building Safety, as they administer the education fund.

 

As Indiana Association of Building Officials submits the request for funding on behalf of the membership, IABO will not submit an attendee’s name who does NOT attend the entire class; failure to attend the entire class renders that attendee ineligible for funding.
