A training seminar sponsored by the Indiana Association of Building Officials, Inc. a chapter of the International Code Council, Inc.

  • Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch (lunch will not be provided
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Cost*:

Member $100, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Non-member:  $125, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Lunch will not be provided


*IABO has applied for funding through the Statewide Fire and Building Safety Education Fund (675 IAC 12-11).  Please DO NOT pay in advance as an invoice will be sent following the class.



This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's. 


Course Description:
The 2012 IFC and IBC Hazardous Materials Provisions seminar addresses requirements for buildings utilizing hazardous materials and requiring coordination between the fire and building codes.  It reviews the requirements found in Chapters 50 through 67 of the International Fire Code (IFC), as well as Chapter 3, and Sections 414 and 415 of the International Building Code (IBC).


Course Objectives:
  • Identify the special provisions that show how care facilities are regulated differently from other types of uses, including egress, accessibility, allowable areas and other aspects.
  • Determine the appropriate occupancy classification based on the attributes of the respective care facility.
  • Describe the significant special provisions for the various levels of medical care facilities.
  • Explain the different fire protection features required in each type of care facility.
  • Explain the three different levels of care facilities addressed by the IBC.

Presenter:  Scott W. Adams, Senior Fire & Life Safety Consultant

Mr. Adams graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering.  Mr. Adams is certified as an ICC Fire Code Inspector II and Building Plans Examiner.  Mr. Adams is employed with West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. and provides third party plan review and inspection services for fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, specialized fire protection and detection systems, smoke management systems and detailed water supply analysis.  Mr. Adams recently retired from Park City Fire Service District where he served as the Assistant Fire Chief/District Fire Marshal.  Mr. Adams served as Chairman for the 2002 Winter Olympics Fire Marshals Work Group and was instrumental in developing the fire and life safety guidelines that were used in both permanent and temporary Olympic facilities and the planning and implementation of fire prevention and exiting programs for the games.  Mr. Adams is currently serving as Chairman for the ICC Governing Committee for the Fire Service Membership Council and has served as President for the International Fire Marshal's Association.




Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is July 18, 2018.  Registrations received after July 18 will not be guaranteed class materials at the time of class.



Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than July 18, 2018 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.


Attendance Notice Regarding Certificates/Funding:

Indiana Association of Building Officials is committed to complying with the requirements of the Division of Fire and Building Safety, as they administer the education fund.

 

As Indiana Association of Building Officials submits the request for funding on behalf of the membership, IABO will not submit an attendee’s name who does NOT attend the entire class; failure to attend the entire class renders that attendee ineligible for funding.
