    2018 IRC Essentials with Indiana Amendments (Virtual)


    Date: Wednesday, December 11, 2024

    • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
    • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch
    • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

    Location:  Virtual


    Cost:  $100


    Because this is an ICC Midwest Region V class put on by the Indiana Association of Building Officials there will be no state reimbursement for this class, therefore the cost will be $ 100.00 per person.  Payment may be made by credit card at the time of registration.


    This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's. 


    Course Description:

    This seminar examines basic concepts of the 2018 International residential Code with Indiana  amendments. These concepts provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code.  A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the 2018 International residential Code with Indiana amendments in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the intent of the code when asked to make a judgment on code compliance. 

    Objectives:

    • Explain the fundamental provisions of the 2018 International residential Code with Indiana  amendments.
    • Locate general topics and applicable tables in the 2018 International residential Code with Indiana  amendments.
    • Define terms essential for correct code interpretation to all aspects of the code including building, energy conservation, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, and electrical.


    Instructor:  Roger Axel, C. B. O.

    Building Inspector, Retired; 12 years construction experience as self-employed contractor, 30 years inspection experience (10 years building inspector, 5 years plans examiner, 15 years building official) including single and multi-family residential, educational, industrial, business and mercantile occupancies including the Mall of America; Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education, University of Minnesota; Associate in Applied Science Degree in Building Inspection Technology, Inver Hills Community College; State of Minnesota Certified Building Official; Multiple International Code Council Certifications; ICC instructor; instructor for Housing and Building Inspection Institute at UW-Madison College of Engineering; instructor for MN Licensed Residential Contractor continuing education seminars; past Chairman, and past Executive Officer of the Association of MN Building Officials; active member of the Association of MN Building Officials, the 10,000 Lakes Chapter, MN Building Permit Technicians and the Upper Great Plains Region III Chapters of the International Code Council.

    Cancellation Policy:
    All cancellations must be received in writing no later than December 7, 2024 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.

    This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's.


    Course Description:

    This seminar addresses the key issues of the 2014 Indiana Building Code that are applicable to residential multi-family structures classified as Group R-2 occupancies.  The focus will be on those requirements that are unique to apartment buildings, with an emphasis on fire-and life-safety concerns.  In addition, those accessibility scoping provisions applicable specifically to apartment buildings will be addressed. 


    Instructor:  Jay Woodward, Senior Staff Architect

    Woodward’s more than 40 years of experience in building design, construction, code enforcement and instruction provide him with the ability to address issues of code application and design for code enforcement personnel as well as architects, designers, and contractors. Woodward has previously served as the Secretariat for the ICC A117.1 Accessibility Standard committee, ICC’s International Energy Conservation Code, and the International Building Code’s Fire Safety Code Development committee. A graduate of the University of Kansas and a registered architect, prior to joining ICC Jay has also worked as an architect for the Leo A. Daly Company in Omaha, Nebraska; as a building plans examiner for the City of Wichita, Kansas; and as a senior staff architect for the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO). He is also a co-author of Significant Changes to the International Building Code and author of Significant Changes to the A117.1 Accessibility Standard and for the Firestopping, Joint Systems and Dampers.

    This seminar examines the essential electrical concepts found in Chapters 34 through 43 of the 2020 Indiana Residential Code that provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code.  A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the 2020 InRC in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the code’s intended application. This seminar will also help the code user to correctly locate the applicable code requirements.
